When the Internet was young, the idea of passing jokes on line among friends guaranteed a steady supply of laughs. Now, however, there are so many joke pages and joke-of-the-day mailing lists that there is rarely anything new to enjoy. Over the years I have saved some of the stories that appealed to me at the time and, in the absence of anything fresh on the web, have put a few on the following pages. Some of my favourites go back to the days when you actually used to tell them in the pub for a laugh, rather than put them on the Net.
